Summer Avenue Walking Tour Planned


Walkable Reading, the Historic District Commission, and the Reading Antiquarian Society have come together to sponsor a walk of the Summer Avenue Historic District on Sunday, May 7 at 1:30 p.m. The walk will begin at the corner of Summer Avenue and Temple Street and will view over 25 properties that are included in the Historic District. The history and architecture of the church and the homes in the district will be explored. Among the architectural styles that will be seen are Italianate, Mansard, Colonial style and several others. Many stories about the neighborhood will be revealed as well. Participants will discover who “Father Kemp” was and learn which house is called Wisteria Lodge.
