The Town Clerk announced that all registered voters will be able to vote before Election Day for the first time ever in Massachusetts. Early voting will begin on October 24 and continue through November 4. Early voting can be done in person or by mail. In the town of Reading, early voting can be done in person at Town Hall, 16 Lowell Street, during normal business hours of Monday, Wednesday, Thursday from 7:30 AM to 5:30 PM and Tuesday 7:30 AM to 7:00 PM. For public convenience, the town also offers weekend hours on Saturday, October 29, 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and Friday November 4th 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
Absentee voting is still available for registered voters who qualify. Only those who will be absent from Reading on Election Day; have a disability that prevents them from going to the polls; or have a religious belief preventing the same, are legally allowed to vote by absentee ballot.
To be eligible to vote in the November 8th State Election, you must register or make any necessary changes to your voter registration by October 19.
To determine if you are already registered to vote, visit the Secretary of the Commonwealth’s website at www.sec.state.ma.us/ele. If you need to register to vote, you may do it online by visiting: www.RegisterToVoteMA.com. All you need is a license or an ID issued by the Registry of Motor Vehicles to apply online. You may also register to vote in person at Town Hall.
It is important to note that once a voter has cast an early voting ballot, the voter may no longer vote at the polls on Election Day.
