SUMMARY:CROFT is Coming Home to RMHS for Special Screening
DESCRIPTION:April 10 at 7:00 PM – One Night Only\nREADING\, MA — The documentary CROFT will return to where the story began with a special one-night-only screening at Reading Memorial High School on Thursday\, April 10\, at 7:00 PM. The event will include a post-film Q&A with filmmaker and Reading track legend Hal Croft. \nThe film tells the remarkable story of Hal Croft\, a Reading Memorial High School teacher and track and field coach whose program achieved an unprecedented 29-year undefeated dual-meet streak — 252 consecutive victories — a national record. Beyond the track\, Croft was a beloved English teacher who inspired generations of students and athletes. \nA Vietnam War veteran\, Croft returned home to build one of the most successful high school track programs in American history\, influencing thousands of students. His career earned him honors\, including National Track Coach of the Year and the Disney/McDonald’s National Teacher of the Year award. \nToday\, living on Cape Cod in retirement\, Croft reflects on a life marked by achievement\, challenge\, and lasting impact. The documentary follows his journey as an educator\, mentor\, and competitor whose legacy continues to resonate. \nTickets for the April 10 screening are available now. Seats are limited.

SUMMARY:Living Holocaust Witness 96-Year-Old Tibor Spitz to Speak in Reading
DESCRIPTION:Chabad of Wakefield hosts a rare in-person testimony at RMHS as the 96-year-old survivor shares his story of survival\, resilience\, and remembrance\n\nREADING\, MA — Chabad of Wakefield will host a rare and historic evening on Monday\, March 9 at 7:00 p.m. as Holocaust survivor Tibor Spitz shares his testimony in person at Reading Memorial High School’s William Endslow Performing Arts Center\, together with community and corporate sponsors. \nTibor Spitz was 10 years old in Slovakia when he was expelled from public school under Nazi rule\, and his family’s property was confiscated. As deportations to Auschwitz began\, his family fled and spent several years in hiding\, including months buried beneath snow and ice in the Slovak mountains while SS troops actively searched the area for Jews. \nMost of Tibor’s extended family was murdered in the Holocaust. Against all odds\, he survived. \nAfter the war\, Tibor rebuilt his life\, becoming a scientist\, inventor\, and PhD whose work contributed to technologies that helped shape the digital age. Alongside his scientific career\, he emerged as a powerful artist and lecturer\, using both science and art to communicate the realities of the Holocaust and its lasting impact. \nNow 96 years old and residing in upstate New York\, Tibor Spitz continues to share his testimony so that future generations can hear the truth directly from a living witness. \n“This is one of those evenings that defines a community\,” said Rabbi Sruly Brook of Chabad of Wakefield. “We are living in a time when antisemitism is rising\, and Holocaust survivors are becoming fewer and fewer each year. Hearing directly from someone who lived through it is powerful and life-changing.” \nTickets are $20\, with $10 student tickets available. VIP reception tickets are also available and include the opportunity to meet Tibor Spitz personally before the event. Tickets are required\, and seating is limited. \nTickets can be purchased at Jewishwakefield.com/tickets or by calling 781-205-9593. \nThis is not an event to read about afterward. This is the moment to be present.

SUMMARY:Holocaust Survivor to Share Her Story in Reading
DESCRIPTION:On March 3\, 2025\, Reading will bear witness to history as 97-year-old Auschwitz survivor Helga Melmed shares her harrowing story of survival and resilience. Hosted by Chabad of Wakefield\, the event will take place at the Reading Memorial High School and is open to the community. \nMelmed was just five years old when her schoolteacher in Berlin called her a “dirty Jew” and beat her hands. She was ten when Kristallnacht shattered Jewish homes and businesses. By thirteen\, she was deported with her parents to the Lodz Ghetto\, where starvation and forced labor claimed her father’s life. She was later sent to Auschwitz\, then to brutal labor camps near Hamburg\, and finally endured a death march to Bergen-Belsen. Weighing just 46 pounds\, riddled with typhus\, typhoid fever\, and tuberculosis\, she was barely conscious when the British liberated the camp on April 15\, 1945.
