SUMMARY:Being Jonas Wilder — A Solo Music-Theater Evening
DESCRIPTION:At Unitarian Universalist Church of Reading on October 10th\nReading\, MA — On Saturday\, October 10th at 3:30 PM\, the Unitarian Universalist Church of Reading and the Creative Humanity Alliance are co-presenting “Being Jonas Wilder” — a solo music-theater experience performed by singer-songwriter and author Mark Firehammer. \nAbout the Show: It is a 70-minute event that is genuinely hard to categorize: part concert\, part memoir\, part something else entirely. Drawing on Firehammer’s novel The Echo and the Voice and album Songs in the Key of Return\, the performance weaves together five original songs with the stories of what those songs were actually carrying in real time. Audiences come curious and tend to leave quiet — in a good way. \nEvent Details: \nRSVP / Info: https://creativehumanityalliance.org/being-jonas-wilder/ \nWhen: Saturday\, October 10\, 2026 · 3:30 PM (Doors open at 3:00 PM) \nWhere: Unitarian Universalist Church of Reading (239 Woburn Street\, Reading\, MA) \nAdmission: Free to attend. Tax-deductible donations are welcome and will benefit both co-presenting non-profits.

SUMMARY:Colonial Chorus Players Presents Dark Satire The Pillowman
DESCRIPTION:Martin McDonagh’s play exploring the line between art and reality runs October 2–11 at Reading’s Old Hose House Theater\nReading\, MA — Does art imitate life\, or does life imitate art? That’s the question at the heart of Martin McDonagh’s dark\, twisty satire The Pillowman\, presented by Colonial Chorus Players October 2–11 at the Old Hose House Theater\, 1249 Main Street\, Reading. \nThe Pillowman is set in a police interrogation room in an unnamed totalitarian state where a young writer\, Katurian\, is under suspicion for inciting horrific violent acts through his short stories. As Katurian attempts to defend his artistic freedom\, his stories come to life on the stage through creative staging\, and the audience is left to decipher their true meaning and impact. \nMartin McDonagh is an award-winning Irish playwright and filmmaker known for provocative works such as The Banshees of Inisherin and Three Billboards Outside Ebbing\, Missouri. The Pillowman is recommended for mature audiences only and contains adult language\, child abuse\, suicide\, physical violence\, ableist slurs\, and other mature content. \nThe cast features AJ Lyman\, Casey Preston\, Mark Damon\, Ryan March\, Nick Bennett-Zendzian\, Addie Pates\, and Mia Imparato under the direction of Corey Cadigan. \nAdvance tickets are $30 for adults and $25 for seniors/students. In honor of CCP’s 65th anniversary this year\, a special $65 ticket is available for “sapphire supporters.” Tickets at the door are $33 for adults and $25 for seniors/students\, available 30 minutes before showtime\, payable in cash or via Venmo. SUMMARY:Reading Cultural Council Opens FY27 Arts Grant Applications
DESCRIPTION:Local artists and organizations can apply for funding to support cultural programs serving the Reading community through October 15\nReading\, MA — The Reading Cultural Council recently announced the opening of this year’s grant cycle.  Do you have a creative project that could benefit our town? \nIn FY27 Mass Cultural Council will invest $5.850\,000 into the Local Cultural Council (LCC) Program\, in which Reading is included.  This is our nation’s largest grassroots cultural funding network. \nAs an LCC\, the Reading Cultural Council (RCC) awards grants to individuals and organizations offering cultural programs that serve the Reading community. These include school field trips\, after-school programs\, concerts\, festivals\, lectures\, theater\, dance\, music\, and film. The projects take place in schools\, community centers\, libraries\, elder care facilities\, town halls\, parks\, and wherever our community comes together. \nThe grant cycle runs now through October 15th.  Funds are granted on a reimbursement basis.  Eligibility rules and the official application form are available at https://massculturalcouncil.org/local-council/reading.  Read through the local requirements and then click the Apply Now button. \nWe are fortunate to have such a robust volunteer-based arts and culture community in our town\, and RCC encourages applications each year. \nIn addition to the LCC program\, the Massachusetts Cultural Council manages and funds other grants available for specific types of arts and cultural events.  While you are on the website\, we urge you to explore the myriad of other potential sources of financial support.  While there\, you can sign up for an information session on 9/102026.

SUMMARY:Colonial Chorus Players Celebrates 65 Years of Theater and Community with Anniversary Fundraising Gala
DESCRIPTION:READING\, MA – For 65 years\, Colonial Chorus Players has brought theater\, creativity\, and community together in Reading and beyond. The organization will celebrate that milestone with its 65th Anniversary Fundraising Gala\, an evening dedicated to honoring CCP’s history while supporting its future. \nThe gala will take place on Saturday\, November 7 from 6–10 p.m. at Teresa’s Prime Steakhouse in North Reading. Guests will enjoy a cocktail hour\, catered dinner\, live entertainment\, a special program\, raffle prizes\, and dancing. Members of the cast of The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee will also perform during the event. \nThe celebration will bring together CCP members\, patrons\, community leaders\, board members\, and theater friends past and present for an evening celebrating the vital part Colonial Chorus Players has played in the local arts community for over six decades. \nTickets are $65 per person. Guests are encouraged to wear semi-formal or cocktail attire\, with optional 1960s-inspired touches or sapphire blue in honor of CCP’s 65th anniversary. Ample parking is available on site. \nAlthough the gala is a celebration\, it is also an important fundraiser for Colonial Chorus Players. Ticket sales alone do not cover the full cost of producing theater and maintaining CCP’s historic performance home\, the Old Hose House Theatre in Reading. Funds raised through the gala will help support CCP’s annual operating costs\, productions and events\, technical and stagecraft needs\, and the ongoing care and preservation of the Hose House. \n“After 65 years\, we have so much to celebrate and to look forward to\,” says CCP’s president\, Luisiana Cruz\, “This gala is an opportunity to celebrate the incredible community that has made CCP what it is while helping ensure that this organization and the Hose House remain a home for theater and creativity for generations to come.” \nThose interested in attending can purchase tickets or make an additional donation through the gala’s ticket page at givebutter.com/CCPFundraisingGala. Those unable to attend can still make a donation through the same page. \nFor more information\, please contact Colonial Chorus Players at gala@ccp1961.org or visit www.ccp1961.org.
