At our Silent Reading Parties\, you come to the Library with your book. Read it in silence\, in the company of other readers\, for an hour\, and finally\, gather in the Community Room to enjoy refreshments and talk with others about your book(s). \nSilent Reading Parties will be held on July 7 at 2:30 p.m.\, July 23 at 6:00 p.m.\, and August 9 at noon. \nIf you’re ready to take your writing from the page to the stage\, check out our workshops held in collaboration with Reading’s Writers’ Collaborative Learning Center and the professionals at Redwood Speaking. You’ll learn how to write\, refine\, and tell a compelling story. SUMMARY:Reading Community Singers Announce Three Open Rehearsals
DESCRIPTION:Reading\, MA — Mark your calendar! The Reading Community Singers is pleased to announce our Fall season will begin with Three OPEN Rehearsals\, starting Tuesday\, August 26\, 2024\, and continuing on to September 2 and 9. New and Returning Singers are welcome! \nSign-In at the first three Rehearsals will start at 6:45 PM\, with Rehearsal to follow at 7:30 pm. Registration is Open for the first three rehearsals – try RCS out for up to three weeks before joining! While RCS does NOT require Auditions\, our Members must love to sing\, be able to match pitch and carry a tune\, and be committed to attending rehearsals. We’re open to all ages and backgrounds – from 18 years to Senior Citizens. Founded in 1919\, RCS is one of the longest running non-audition choruses in the United States. \nAll Rehearsals are on Tuesdays from 7:30 to 9:30 PM at Old South United Methodist Church\, 6 Salem St.\, Reading MA. \nOur Concert “Hope for the Holidays” will be presented Saturday\, December 6 at Reading Memorial High School\, with Beth Mosier ~ Artistic Director\, and Joe Beninati ~ Accompanist\, and a full band. DESCRIPTION:WAKEFIELD\, MA – The Wakefield Porchfest Committee has developed a guide for attendees planning to attend the 2025 event\, which will take place from 12:00 to 6:00 p.m. on Saturday\, September 6\, 2025. The event will feature 134 musical acts at 67 locations across the community (current schedule below). The following points will ensure a safe\, fun event for everyone! \n\nThe event website (wakefieldporchfest.com) is the place to find the latest schedule\, band lineup\, and venues\, as all performances are subject to change. Printed schedules are also available at the following businesses: Cravings\, Hobby Bunker\, Life Love Cheese\, Main ST Grille & Taphouse\, North Ave Diner\, Remedy Exchange\, Rise & Shine\, Waves/Lakeside Inn\, Slice\, and Sweetbay Flowers and Gifts.\n\n\nThe event is *100 percent free* but some artists may ask for tips or sell merchandise if a host allows it. Please support your local musicians!\n\n\nThis is designed as a community-forward\, family-friendly event! Please take care while driving\, walking\, and moving between venues. Respect the host properties\, their neighbors\, and other attendees.\n\n\nThis is a highly walkable event\, with multiple venues clustered in neighborhoods around Wakefield. Use the interactive map on wakefieldporchfest.com to find nearby hosts.\n\n\nRemember to bring a folding chair\, blanket\, water\, and an umbrella\, in case of light rain or to block the sun. Enjoy live music on the lawn or in the driveway\, while keeping all public sidewalks and roadways free and clear.\n\n\nThe Wakefield Porchfest organizers have not closed any streets\, although certain hosts have worked with the Town of Wakefield to secure block party permits. Those specific hosts are responsible and must follow the guidelines provided to them by the Town.\n\n\nPorchfest provides the opportunity to hear musical acts in a variety of genres and styles. Use the schedule to discover new acts. If you don’t like something you hear\, there’s always another venue with new acts nearby!\n\n\nIf you are driving\, remember that town parking restrictions are in effect on Saturdays! There are paid parking lots along North Avenue and near Greenwood Station.\n\n\nAlcohol consumption is up to the discretion of each host. Please do not drink on public sidewalks or roadways! If you decide to drink\, please make a plan to use taxis or rideshares to get home.\n\n\nPorchfest hosts are not obligated to provide bathrooms for participants! Public restrooms and/or portable toilets will be available at the Albion Cultural Exchange\, Veterans Field\, and Spaulding Playground. There will also be presentations by Reading Coalition for Prevention and Support Director Erica Maillet\, Fire Chief Rick Nelson\, and Assistant School Superintendent Jen Stys\, who will share highlights from opioid settlement-funded initiatives focused on saving lives\, connecting residents to care\, and preventing substance misuse. \nThe event will conclude with a candlelight vigil. \nThe poetry contest is open to students ages 13 and up who attend Reading Public Schools. The winner of the contest will read their poem at the “A Time to Gather” event. Entries should be submitted by Sept. 10.
