We are committed to providing unbiased and diverse viewpoints on local issues and welcome any and all local contributors from the community. We hope to become the premier source for local government, public schools, community events, and daily life.
The Reading Post accepts press releases, letters to the editor, and submitted content for Reading-based organizations, clubs, and businesses.
All letters to the editor must be signed. The Reading Post reserves the right to edit or not publish any letters received. Letters do not represent the views or opinions of the Post.
Letters to the Editor and Candidate Statement Policy

Submission Requirements
- All letters must be signed, dated, and include a phone number and email address (phone and email will not be posted and only used for verification and communication)
- Authors must have a direct community connection to Reading, Massachusetts (resident, employed in town, business owner, etc.)
- Letters and columns appearing in The Reading Post are the views of the authors and do not reflect the views of The Reading Post.
- All letters must have a 500-word limit – letters over this limit will be returned to the author for editing.
- Authors are limited to one letter submission per month.
- Letters written in response to other letter writers should address the issue at hand, rather than mentioning the writer by name, and should refer to the headline and date the letter was published. Letters referring to news stories should also include the headline and publication date.
- All election-related letters must be received seven calendar days before the election. Letters that are received within six days of the election will not be published.
- For the April 7, 2026 election, all Letters must be received by March 31, 2026, 11:59pm EST.
Posting Guidelines
- All letters are posted as received, unless otherwise noted.
- The Reading Post reserves the right to edit or refuse letters.
- Letters containing hearsay, rumors, personal attacks, name-calling, or anything that could be considered defamation, slander, or libel will not be published.
- The Reading Post is run on a volunteer basis. We will do our best to respond to authors submitting Letters to the Editor within two business days.
- The Reading Post reserves the right to end debate on a topic after both sides have had ample chance to express their views.
- All letters are subject to editing for style, mechanics, and grammar.
Candidate Statements
- Candidates running for town election may submit one statement of up to 500 words to The Reading Post for publishing. Statements may include up to one image.
- Statements must also adhere to the guidelines explained in the Letters to the Editor Policy.
