Andover, MA – In case you missed it, the Boston Globe has endorsed Tram Nguyen for Congress in the Sixth Congressional race. The Editorial Board cites in its piece “Tram Nguyen for Congress” that Tram is the best candidate because of her legislative record and her personal story as an immigrant who came to the United States as a political refugee with just $100.
“At a time when refugees and immigrants are routinely vilified, and when the Democratic Party’s relationship with the working class seems especially tenuous, electing Nguyen to Congress would send a powerful message — and send a powerful voice to Washington for the Sixth District. The Globe editorial board proudly endorses Nguyen in the Sept. 1 primary for the district that includes communities north and east of Boston.” – Boston Globe Editorial Board

The Globe editorial also drew a sharp contrast with Nguyen’s chief competitor in the race, former Andover Selectman Dan Koh.
“There is a difference, though, between understanding the issues and the executive branch and knowing how to make law, and Koh doesn’t have Nguyen’s record of legislative accomplishment.
“And while there’s every reason to believe Koh would be good at the constituent-service side of a representative’s job, in Nguyen’s case there’s no doubt. She already has a record.” – Boston Globe Editorial Board

The Boston Globe endorsement comes two days after Tram was endorsed by Congresswoman Lori Trahan and Congresswoman Ayanna Pressley who are the first members of the Massachusetts delegation to endorse in this race.

She fought to become the first in her family to graduate college. As a legal aid attorney and proud member of UAW Local 2320, she fought against wage theft for immigrant workers and always stood up for working families. Then she carried that fight to the State House, beating an entrenched MAGA Republican by ten points. Washington desperately needs more women like Tram, a woman who got where she is on her own two feet, and who has never backed down from a challenge. ABOUT TRAM T. NGUYEN: State Representative Tram Nguyen has overcome tough challenges her entire life. At just five years old, Tram came to the United States as a refugee after her family fled Vietnam’s authoritarian regime with only $100, a few suitcases, and a dream. She has always been a fighter, becoming the first in her family to graduate from college, and as an attorney with the Greater Boston Legal Services standing up for survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault, veterans, immigrants, low-wage workers, and people with disabilities. In that role, Tram became a member of UAW Local 2320. In 2018, Tram took on a deeply entrenched Republican incumbent and won by ten points, making history as the first Vietnamese American woman elected to public office in Massachusetts.
