Inaugural event featured Reading-based Lee Kimball, highlighting local craftsmanship while inspiring residents to share their own home renovation stories
The Residence at Pearl Street recently hosted the first installment of its new “Our Town, Our Neighbors” series, an initiative designed to strengthen connections between residents and local businesses that have helped shape the Reading community.
The inaugural event featured Bruce Johnson, owner of Lee Kimball, the family-owned design-build company based in Reading that has been transforming homes for more than 85 years.
During the presentation, Johnson shared the company’s history, tracing its evolution from specializing in kitchen and bathroom remodeling in the 1940s to designing and building the custom home additions and renovations it is known for today.
The presentation prompted residents to reflect on their own experiences with home improvement projects and renovations. One resident, Bill, shared that he had built his Reading home from the ground up, sparking conversation and memories among those in attendance.
“Our residents loved reminiscing about the hands-on projects, renovations, and upgrades they tackled in their own homes over the years,” said Beverly Curry, Resident Engagement Director at The Residence at Pearl Street. “They were so impressed with the before and after photos of jobs Lee Kimball presented.”
The “Our Town, Our Neighbors” series is intended to celebrate Reading’s local businesses while giving residents opportunities to engage with the people, history, and trades that have contributed to the community’s character for generations.
