Obituary: Betty Jane Gilligan, 79

d. May 3, 2026

Betty Jane Gilligan, 79, of Dade City, Florida, passed away peacefully on May 3, 2026. Born in Cambridge, Massachusetts, to the late Thomas and Julia Gilligan.

Betty Jane was raised in Reading, Massachusetts, and carried the heart of her New England roots throughout her life. She raised her three sons in Seabrook, New Hampshire, and later moved to Dover, New Hampshire. Eventually, she moved to Dade City, Florida, where she shared many happy years with her beloved husband, Charlie Brouillette.

Betty was a woman of simple pleasures and sharp wit. She was happiest when sitting down with a challenging puzzle, bowling, or playing a hand of cards with friends and family. Beyond her love for games, she was a passionate lifelong fan of all Boston sports teams, and rarely missed a chance to cheer them on from her living room chair. Family was the center of Betty’s world. She was a devoted mother of Ronald Pittendreigh, Mark Pittendreigh (Lynn), and Scott Pittendreigh.

Her love and guidance will be carried on by her seven grandchildren – Kati, Paxton, Megan, Joshua (Amy), Matthew, Kelly, and Malcolm- as well as her three great-grandchildren, Catherine, Grace, and Tommy. Betty was predeceased by her brother, Robert Gilligan, and survived by her brothers, John (Lynn) and Tom Gilligan, and many nieces and nephews who held a special place in her heart.

She will be remembered for her love of a good game, her clever mind, and her unwavering devotion to her family. Since there will be no formal services, in her memory, sit down for a puzzle, play a hand of cards, or watch a game with someone you love.
