To the Editor:
I’m writing in strong support of Karen Herrick’s re-election to the Reading Select Board. For well over a decade, Karen has been a steady, hardworking volunteer for our town—from her service on the Finance Committee to the past six years on the Select Board. She consistently stands out for doing the work, asking the hard questions, and making sure residents’ concerns are heard and addressed. She also communicates back to the community with regular updates at each Select board meeting, providing transparency, integrity and follow-through.
Karen understands how to bring resources back to Reading. Karen has developed close working relationships with our state legislative delegation as well as working with our federal legislators. She has been the catalyst from the Select Board that helped secure strong funding for projects and programs that benefit the entire community—ranging from the Maillette-Sommes project to the Killam School project.
Another example of Karen’s effective advocacy is her work to ensure Reading could fully participate in the Commonwealth’s Green Communities program. Her efforts contributed to the state adapting its Green Communities guidelines to work with Municipal Light Departments including our own RMLD, allowing Reading to become a designated Green Community and making us eligible for substantial state grants for energy efficiency and other green projects.
Reading needs experienced, thoughtful and effective leadership on the Select Board, and Karen has earned the community’s trust through results, transparency, and a clear commitment to residents. I hope voters will join me in supporting Karen Herrick for re-election.
Sincerely,
Mark Dockser
Beaver Road
