Reading, MA — Revolutionary-era history came alive in song during Songs of the Revolution: A Winter Concert with Diane Taraz at the Reading Public Library.

Singer and dulcimer musician Diane Taraz blended storytelling with brief performances of historic ballads once sung in homes, churches, and on battlefields, showing how familiar melodies were often reused with new lyrics to share news or satire. Audience members heard examples like the British tune “The British Grenadiers,” later adapted by colonists into “Free America.”

Accompanying herself on mountain dulcimer and period-style instruments, Taraz offered music, context, and humor throughout the program, which was sponsored by the Friends of the Reading Public Library.
