Obituary: Venetia (Stavrinos) Mitropoulos, 94

January 28, 1931 ~ January 21, 2026

Mitropoulos, Venetia (Stavrinos) -Of Reading, beloved wife of the late John N. Mitropoulos, passed away peacefully at her home, surrounded by her family, on Wednesday, January 21. Venetia was 94 years old, just one week shy of her 95th birthday.

Venetia was a devoted servant of her Orthodox faith and a longtime member of the Annunciation of the Virgin Mary Greek Orthodox Church in Woburn. She served as Philoptochos President multiple times and was both a Sunday School teacher and Sunday School Administrator alongside her husband, John. Together, John and Venetia provided fellowship every Sunday for 40 years. Venetia also helped run the kitchen for the church’s annual festival, and many of her cherished recipes are still used for the dishes offered today.

Venetia retired after a remarkable 60-year career as a hairdresser.

She was the devoted mother of Theophilos J. Mitropoulos and his wife Linda (Banacos) of Reading, Nicholas J. Mitropoulos and his wife Maureen (McBride) of North Reading, Margaritta C. Grimes and her husband David of Winchester, and the late Asemo Mitropoulos.

Venetia was the cherished grandmother (YiaYia) of John Theo Mitropoulos and his wife Amanda, Arianna Sophia Mitropoulos and her wife Tree Ferran, Alexander N. Mitropoulos and his wife Sabrina, Timothy N. Mitropoulos, James David Grimes, Venetia Yanna Rozanski and her husband Robert, and the late Christopher N. Mitropoulos. Most recently, she was blessed to become a great-grandmother to Austin A. Mitropoulos and John James Rozanski.

She was the beloved daughter of Theophilos and Asemo (Davos) Stavrinos, sister of Lydia Stavrinos, and the late Mary Francouer, John Stavrinos, Demetra Morakis, Sandra Flynn, and George Stavrinos, and the cherished daughter-in-law of the late Nicholas and Margarita Mitropoulos. Venetia is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.

Family and friends are cordially invited to calling hours at the Annunciation of the Virgin Mary Greek Orthodox Church, 70 Montvale Avenue, Woburn, on Thursday, January 29, 2026, from 9:00–11:00 a.m. Funeral services will immediately follow. Interment will take place at Charles Lawn Cemetery in Reading.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Venetia’s memory may be made to the Annunciation of the Virgin Mary Greek Orthodox Church, 70 Montvale Avenue, Woburn.
