I am writing to express my dismay at the Reading Selectboard’s insistence that the Director of RCTV be fired before they sign more than the current 3-month contract.  It is not the job of the Board to dictate to the Board of RCTV their duties and putting this kind of caveat to the renewal of the contract is abhorrent.

RCTV has provided extensive offerings to the Town, not least of which is the coverage of meetings of the Selectboard along with other committee meetings.  They have also provided summer camps for the children of Reading and provide classes at Reading High School; in addition they cover local events and provide access to their equipment to Reading residents.  I know of no reason that the Town should be dissatisfied with their services.

The Board must renew RCTV’s contract at the next possible meeting so that the services RCTV delivers to the citizens of the Town can continue uninterrupted.
