To Reading’s Citizens and Voters…..

Please know that replacing our 1883 Pleasant Street Center is NOT a whim !

Discussions and surveys have been going on for decades with past political leaders, various town committees, special committees, hired professionals and those who have attended our Pleasant Street Center for years.

It is well known that the Pleasant Street Center built in 1883:

  • Has been too small for the various needs for decades.
  • One-third of our population is 60+ and growing.
  • Lacks storage space.  Every room and hallway is stacked with equipment,
  • furniture, tables, and chairs that need to be reused throughout the
  • Center.
  • It has heating, plumbing, wiring, mold, mildew, and a lack of a private area for discussions….in addition to its recurring flooding problem.
  • Our professional, caring staff employees are working in hallways,
  • and tiny shared spaces…which lack privacy.
  • Our SHINE Representatives work in an area that has a wall that does not go to the ceiling.  Therefore, there isn’t any privacy when providing their medical/drug guidance.
  • Our handicapped needs must be recognized and addressed.
  • Parking is limited.

The need for a new location is there…and has been there for decades.

Please vote on  May 13th….ask your family, friends and neighbors to vote too.

Thank you,
