WAKEFIELD – Canadian folk icon James Keelaghan returns to Wakefield on Saturday, May 3 at 7:30 p.m. for a special performance presented by Linden Tree Concerts, capping off the venue’s memorable 40th season. Held at the Wakefield Lynnfield United Methodist Church, the evening will open with a performance by The Secret Sauce, winners of the 2024 Winter Potpourri audience vote.
Keelaghan, often referred to as “Canada’s finest singer-songwriter,” is known for his deeply thoughtful lyrics, compelling storytelling, and resonant baritone voice. His songs explore themes of social justice, history, and human experience, delivered with poetic precision and emotional depth. Over his storied career, he has earned international acclaim and a loyal following, with a repertoire that includes moving originals such as Cold Missouri Waters, Jenny Bryce, and Hillcrest Mine.
In live performance, Keelaghan brings a rare combination of theatrical flair, historical insight, and musical finesse. Fans can expect a blend of fan favorites and new material from his latest recordings, delivered with warmth and authenticity that resonate in venues big and small.
Opening the evening is The Secret Sauce – a harmonious trio featuring Janet Feld, Esther Friedman, and Jackie Damsky. Together, they serve up a flavorful mix of original songs and select covers, seasoned with three-part harmonies and instrumentation on guitar, mandolin, and violin. Their chemistry, born from friendship and musical admiration, makes for a joyful and engaging performance.
Concertgoers are encouraged to arrive early for best seating. The venue is wheelchair accessible and offers free parking behind the church. Light refreshments, including homemade baked goods, will be available.
Looking ahead, Wakefield PorchFest is set for Saturday, September 6. Linden Tree Concerts will resume in Fall 2025 at a new location, with most shows scheduled for Sunday afternoons at 2 p.m.
