Jane F. Bernard, age 92, formerly of Reading, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully on March 21, 2025, at her home in San Jose, California.
Born January 9, 1933, in Dorchester, Massachusetts, Jane was the oldest of six children and the loving daughter of the late John D. Lyons and Margaret Lyons.
Beloved wife of the late Alban L. Bernard. Devoted mother of Elaine L. Ware and her husband Ramon, Robert J. Bernard and his wife Michelle, Diane B. Simmons and her husband Scott. Cherished grandmother of Julie, William, Katherine, Colleen, Thomas and Alexandra. Dear sister of Richard Lyons, Mary Monkowski and her husband John, the late John Lyons Jr., the late Paul Lyons and his wife Cynthia, and the late Robert Lyons. She is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
Jane attended Boston Latin High School, earned her undergraduate degree from Emmanuel College and a master’s in Education from the University of Massachusetts. She was a teacher for several years and enjoyed a lifelong passion for learning. She enjoyed art, traveling and cherished her time with family and friends.
Visiting hours will be held at the Douglass, Edgerley, & Bessom Funeral Home, 25 Sanborn Street,(corner of Woburn St.) Reading, Monday March 31 from 4:00 – 7:00 pm. A funeral Mass celebrating Jane’s eternal life at St. Agnes Church, 186 Woburn Street, Reading on Tuesday April 1 at 10:30 am. Interment will take place at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, West Roxbury. Family and friends are cordially invited to gather, share memories and celebrate Jane’s life.
