October 21, 1931 – March 1, 2025

Joan Ehrlich, 93, of Reading, Massachusetts passed away peacefully surrounded by family on March 1, 2025.
Joan was born in England but lived in County Galway, Ireland until age 19, when she immigrated to the United States. She had immense pride in her Irish heritage and her brogue was a joy to those around her.
Joan was predeceased by her husband, Cy Ehrlich. She is survived by her daughter Joan (Ehrlich) Jordan and her husband (Hal) of Newmarket, New Hampshire; and two grandsons, Nicholas and his wife Dana of Greenwich, CT and Benjamin and his wife Tammy of Greenwich, CT; and four great grandchildren, Chloe, Bode, Reid and Paige.
Joan spent her career working with children in the Reading school department. She was loved by the families in the Rise Program and was very frequently noticed in town by grown children and families who loved her dearly. Her passion with children extended to her own grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She was a fun, energetic Grammie who the boys remember riding their go-kart and playing endlessly in their pool in Reading. She had many talents including quilling, counted cross stitch, wool hooking and gardening.
The flowers around the pool and in her yard were cared for with love. Her “green thumb” was enjoyed by friends and family alike. Traveling with Cy was a passion they both enjoyed. Numerous trips to Europe were well chronicled in beautiful photo albums.
Joan was a walker and spent hours walking through the adjacent neighborhoods visiting friends and their dogs, which she enjoyed immensely. Joan was “forever young” and was a joyful Irish spirit that radiated love.
Friends and family will be received at Douglass, Edgerley & Bessom Funeral Home, 25 Sanborn Street (corner of Woburn St.) in Reading, MA on Saturday, March 29, 2025 from 10:00 am-12:00 Noon. A celebration of life luncheon will follow. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Joan’s name to the Alzheimer’s Association, 320 Nevada Street, Suite 201, Newton, MA 02460 (www.alz.org)
