Obituary: Owen P. Leahy, 28

Owen P. Leahy, beloved son of Brendan and Kathryn (Fusco) Leahy, passed away suddenly on Monday, January 6, 2025.

Born in Winchester, Owen was raised in Reading and is a graduate of Northshore Recovery High School, Class of 2014. An undeniable talent, Owen was a carpenter by trade and a musician by choice. Owen was so many things to so many people. To his family, he was a loving son, a protective brother, and the family prankster. To his DIY Emo Band, This Is Pointless, he was a co-founder and bass player. In the community of recovery, Owen was a mentor, a support system, and dedicated to helping those looking to change their lives for the better. Owen was proud to have celebrated 10 years of his own sobriety. If you had the privilege of becoming a friend of Owen’s, you were a friend for life. He would do anything for those he loved and those in need. 

Owen was also a photographer. He took great joy in capturing moments in time of his friends and loved ones. He had a zest for life, a contagious laugh, and a sparkle in his eyes. He helped so many in an endless amount of ways. Owen will be deeply missed by his loving family, his beloved cat, Stinky, and the countless other lives he touched. 

In addition to his parents, Owen leaves his sisters, Grace A. Leahy and Emily R. Leahy, both of Reading. Cherished grandson of Mary P. Leahy and the late Donald M. Leahy of Somerville, and Salvatore F. Fusco, Sr. and the late Theresa (Buccieri) Fusco of Somerville. Beloved nephew of Dennis J. Leahy and his wife Sheila Leahy of Virginia, Patricia A. Leahy of Somerville, and the late Mary C. Leahy and the late Daniel P. Leahy of Somerville, Salvatore F. Fusco, Jr and his wife Anita Fusco of Medford, and Theresa A. (Fusco) Boucher of Reading. Owen also leaves many cousins, extended family, and countless friends both locally and across the world. 

Funeral Services to be held from the Cota Funeral home, 335 Park St. North Reading (Corner of Rt. 28 at the Reading Line.) on Tuesday, January 14th at 9:30 am. A funeral mass will be celebrated in Owen’s memory at St. Athanasius Church, 300 Haverhill St., Reading at 10:30 am. Interment will be held privately.

Family and friends are cordially invited to visiting hours at the funeral home on Monday, January 13th from 4 to 8pm.
