Donation established the Diane Avery Weggel Gift Account for Reading Trails
READING, MA – DECEMBER 20, 2024 – The Town of Reading’s Trails Committee has officially approved a $100,000 donation from residents Diane Avery Weggel and Bob Weggel. This donation will establish the Diane Avery Weggel Gift Account, fueling efforts to maintain, plan, and develop both current and future trails throughout the town.
“The Weggels’ generous contribution will directly support the growth and upkeep of the town’s trail system, enriching the outdoor experience for Reading residents,” said Chuck Tirone, Reading’s Conservation Administrator. “The Trails Committee is eager to put this gift to work and strengthen the community’s connection to nature.”
The funds may also be used to acquire land within Reading, expanding and preserving the Town’s outdoor spaces. The Weggels’ commitment to enhancing Reading’s natural environment ensures that future generations will enjoy these trails for years to come.
“Residents of Reading consistently cite our green space and trail system as points of pride for our community, and integral pieces to the Town’s character,” said Town Manager Matt Kraunelis. “We thank Diane and Bob Weggel for this donation to the Trails Committee, and look forward to seeing the results of these funds in the coming years.”
“The Trails Committee is delighted to receive this generous gift and the spirit in which it was given,” said Kathy Kelly, Reading Trails Committee Chair. “Bob and Diane are devoted outdoor enthusiasts with a deep connection to the natural world, and their commitment to preserving open land in Reading for all is so appreciated.”
