Reading Police Charge Swampscott Man with Operating Under the Influence of Alcohol

READING — Police Chief David Clark reports that the Reading Police Department arrested and charged a Swampscott man with operating under the influence of alcohol.

MICHAEL SANCHEZ, 49, OF SWAMPSCOTT, was arrested and charged with:

  • Operating Under the Influence of Alcohol

On Wednesday, Oct. 23, at approximately noon, Reading Police received a report of a potentially intoxicated individual driving a blue Mazda CX-9 in the area of 60 Walker’s Brook Drive.

Responding officers located a male, later identified as SANCHEZ, sitting inside a Mazda CX-9 in the parking lot at 60 Walker’s Brook Drive. When officers approached the vehicle, SANCHEZ tried to back out of the parking space that he was in.

Upon speaking with SANCHEZ, officers could smell a strong odor of alcohol and observed a large cup containing a pink drink in the center console of the Mazda. SANCHEZ, when asked for his driver’s license, instead produced a bank card and a license to carry a firearm before he successfully provided his driver’s license.

SANCHEZ declined to take either field sobriety tests or a portable breathalyzer test. He was taken into custody at the scene.

SANCHEZ was scheduled to be arraigned Thursday in Woburn District Court
