Obituary: Susan M. Shalit, 76

June 17, 1948 – October 19, 2024

Susan M. Shalit (Doucette), age 76, of Wilmington, formerly of Reading, passed away unexpectedly on October 19, 2024, at the Lahey Clinic Hospital in Burlington.

Susan was born on June 17, 1948; she was the dear daughter of the late Paul and Mary (Boudreau) Doucette of Reading. Susan was one of eight siblings; she was raised and educated in Reading, MA. Susan loved her parents dearly; she often reminisced about growing up in the family home on Washington Street in Reading. Susan enjoyed sharing stories with her grandchildren of her early days with her parents and siblings and their fun times as a family.

Susan was very devoted to her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. They had many wonderful times together and enjoyed countless family vacations to the Crayola Factory, Sesame Place in Pennsylvania, Yogi Bear’s Jellystone Campground in Glen, New Hampshire, or, of course, their memorable trips to Disney World in Florida, where her favorite Disney character by far was Goofy.

Susan was a hard worker throughout her life; prior to retiring, she worked as an Aide for the Caremark Company and later New Path. Susan had great compassion for people with varying disabilities and she always tried to do her best to help them learn and to take great care of them.
Susan will be remembered as a wonderful lady; she enjoyed time with family and friends and she will forever live on in their hearts.

Susan is survived by her daughter Stacy Doherty of Texas; her grandchildren Nicolas Belanger of Wilmington and Malicia Doherty of South Carolina; her great-grandchildren Evelyn, Zaiven, Kashton, and Amiyah; her sister Pattie Margeson of Tewksbury, as well as her many nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her parents, Paul and Mary Doucette, as well as her siblings, Janet Santiago, Paul Doucette Jr., Donna Doucette, Peter Michael Doucette, Mary Lou Doucette, and Pamela O’Neil.
Family and friends will gather at the Nichols Funeral Home, 187 Middlesex Ave. (Rte. 62), Wilmington, MA, on Monday, October 28th, for Visitation from 11:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. followed by a Funeral Service at 1:00 p.m. Interment will take place in the family lot at St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Stoneham, MA.
