Massachusetts State Police Sergeant Scott Patrick Hayes of Reading passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, September 14, 2024.
Born on Saturday, November 29, 1980, in Cambridge, Scott is the loving son of George Hayes and Alice (Doran) Hayes. Scott is a warm, kind, loyal son, brother, husband, father, son-in-law, brother-in-law, uncle, and friend who will be deeply missed.
Scott grew up in Somerville and attended Saint Agnes School & Arlington Catholic High School. Upon graduation, Scott attended Suffolk University earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice. He began his career in law enforcement by working at Lesley University, Beth Israel Hospital and MIT before being accepted into the Massachusetts State Police in 2011. After he completed the Massachusetts State Police Academy with the 80th Recruit Training Troop, Scott was stationed at the Danvers State Police Barracks. This is where he established long-standing friendships with his fellow Troopers. While stationed in Danvers, Scott was assigned to the Massachusetts State Police Motorcycle Unit. In 2023, Scott was promoted to Sergeant and he worked at both the Charlton and Holden Barracks before being transferred to the Medford Barracks.
Scott met the love of his life Gena in 2011. They met over their love of dogs and then became inseparable. They were engaged in 2014 and got married on May 20, 2016. Together, they purchased their family home in Reading in 2015 with their first beloved German Shepherd, Trigger Leonard Hayes. In 2017, Scott and Gena welcomed their first child Brayden with his sister Lily following shortly after in 2018. Fatherhood was Scott’s passion. Nothing made him happier than being with his children. He loved coaching Brayden in baseball and being a dance dad. He was proud to be able to travel with his family going to Texas, Arizona with his in laws, Disney with Gena and the kids and he lived out one of his dreams by being able to ride a motorcycle to the Grand Canyon.
A history buff & proud American, Scott loved reading about World War II, the ancient ruins and pyramids in Egypt all while sipping on a glass of bourbon.
He will be eternally remembered for his smile, his laugh, his wittiness, and his willingness to help anyone at anytime in need.
Scott is the beloved husband of Gena (Michael) Hayes. He is the devoted father and best friend of Brayden Hayes and Lily Hayes. The cherished brother of Shawn Hayes and his wife Michelle and Erin Hennessy and her husband Michael, Scott is the proud uncle of Delaney, Jack, Keegan, Nolan, and James. He is the loving son-in-law of Robert Sipos and his wife Debbie and the brother-in-law of David Sipos.
Visiting Hours will be held on Friday, September 20th from 4-7pm in Saint Theresa’s Church, 63 Winter Street NORTH READING. A Funeral Mass Celebrating Scott’s Eternal Life will be held on Saturday, September 21st at 11am in Saint Theresa’s Church, 63 Winter Street NORTH READING.
The Law Enforcement walk by will commence on Friday, September 20th at 1545hrs. Staging and parking will be at Saint Theresa’s Church. Overflow will be across the street and at Ocean State Job Lot.
