Reading, MA — Superintendent of Schools Thomas Milaschewski announced at the July 11 School Committee meeting that current Parker Middle School Assistant Principal Jill Story will serve as interim principal for the coming school year.
Story, who came to Parker as the assistant principal for this past school year, was formerly the Assistant Principal at Medford High School and the social studies chair for grades seven to twelve at MASCO prior to that. She has a doctorate from Northeastern University and a Master’s degree from Simmons College. Milaschewski indicated that a posting for an interim assistant principal has been made and that posting for a permanent principal for the school will occur in a “more favorable time period,” possibly in January.
The School Committee voted 5-0 to appoint Milaschewski as its representative to two collaborative boards, SEEM and the North Shore Educational Consortium. It also voted 5-0 to recommend to the Permanent Building Committee Appointment Committee that member Sean Brandt be appointed to take member Sarah McLaughlin’s place on the Killam School Building Committee (KSBC). McLaughlin cited work obligations as the reason that she could no longer continue on the KSBC.
School Committee member Erin Gaffin was elected by a 5-0 vote to serve another year as vice-chair of the committee. The committee also canceled its planned August 8 meeting and set March 27, 2025, as its next Boston location meeting, provided that the METCO facility in Boston is available on that date.
The School Committee adjourned at 7:30 pm.
