Reading, MA — The Reading Police Department share on Facebook that a transformer on Grove Street caught on fire.
On Thursday morning, Reading Police, Fire, RMLD, and DPW crews responded to a transformer explosion on Grove Street.
In case you were wondering why the roadway was shut down for so long, see the pictures taken by the Reading MA Fire Department and their comments below.
“The intense heat had caused the asphalt on the road to catch fire and a utility cover to be displaced. With the assistance of RMLD, the power was cut off, and the fire was extinguished. The heat was so extreme that even after the flames were extinguished, the water used to control the fire continued to boil. This incident serves as a reminder of the potential hazards posed by downed power lines.”
What a great way to show the dangers of downed power lines!
