Obituary: Santo John “Sam” Pirri, 89

April 17, 1934 – August 21, 2023

Santo John “Sam” Pirri, of Reading, passed away at his home on Monday, August 21. He was 89 years of age.

Born in Boston and raised in Boston’s “West End” neighborhood, he was the son of the late Antonio and the late Gaetana Pirri. “Sam,” as he was known to family and friends, worked as a Systems Analyst for Open Market; and also worked as a programmer for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts for many years.

Sam was an avid sports fan, especially his beloved Boston Red Sox. He also enjoyed playing golf. Sam was a proud “West Ender,” and he loved attending the annual meets of the West End Camp in August of each year. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family.

Sam is survived by his daughter Jeanne Topham and her husband, Mark; his son, Anthony “Tony” Pirri; and his daughter Tammi Pirri Day, and her husband Roderick. He is also survived by one grandson, David Topham.

Visiting hours will be at the Douglass, Edgerley & Bessom Funeral Home, 25 Sanborn St. (cor of Woburn St.) Reading, on Tuesday, August 22 from 10:00-11:00 am. Burial will be private.
