Barbara A. (Cassely) Powers, a longtime resident of Reading, formerly North Reading, of passed away at her home on April 6, 2023. She was 90 years of age.
Barbara was born in Medford, Massachusetts, on August 18, 1932, the daughter of the late Frederick and Barbara (Cunningham) Cassely. While living in North Reading, she attended and graduated from Reading High School. After marrying her husband Charles, they settled in Reading and raised their family. Barbara was a longtime member of St. Athanasius Church in Reading and worked for the Council on Aging for the town of Wakefield. Her family was first and foremost in her life
Barbara is the beloved wife of the late Charles B. Powers, Devoted mother of her 8 children: Eileen (Chris), Dennis (Cathi), Frederick (Theresa), Brenda (Michael), Suzanne, Stephen (Kristin), Charlie Jr. (Amy), and Andrea (Bob). She is the loving grandmother of 16 and is also survived by her sisters Jean Thomson and Alice Ashdown. She also leaves her lifelong friends Fran, Marylou and the late Rosalind.
Her funeral will be held from the Douglass, Edgerley, and Bessom Funeral Home 25 Sanborn St. (corner of Woburn St.) Reading on Thursday, April 13 at 9:00AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Athanasius Church 300 Haverhill St. Reading at 10:00AM. Burial to follow at Forest Glen Cemetery in Reading. Funeral home visiting hours Wednesday, April 12, 2023 from 4-8 pm.
