Obituary: Arthur J. Gale, 95

March 11, 1928 ~ March 16, 2023

Just 5 days after celebrating his 95th birthday, Arthur Gale passed away peacefully surrounded by family on March 16. Born at home in Somerville on March 11, 1928, he was predeceased by his parents Percy and Clarissa Gale, sister Della Gale, his loving wife- Thelma Henderson Gale, and his cherished son- the late Dana Gale.

After graduating from Medford High, Arthur attended Northeastern University, graduating in 1950 with a Bachelor’s in Business Administration. After graduation, he was drafted into the U.S. Army, where he served his country honorably both domestically and overseas in Korea.

Arthur married his sweetheart, the late Thelma Gale, in 1956, moving first to Melrose then to Reading to raise their family. His children- Martha-Lynn Steenbuggen of N. Reading/formerly Wilmington, Brad Gale of Andover, Kimberly Terenzi of Tewksbury, and Heather Bowen of Lynnfield, will continue to live their lives honoring his memory. Arthur welcomed extra love from his children’s partners, the late Richard Steenbruggen, Mindi Gale, Vincent Terenzi, and Jeff Bowen, whom he loved as his own. He instilled values of commitment, loyalty, and love, teaching them all that as a family- we are stronger together.

Arthur put his business degree to use when launching his own small business, Artisan Glass, in 1984 where he employed himself until the ripe old age of 89 years old (pretending to retire a few times before that). His commitment to his business partnership with his son Brad alongside him in the field and working closely with daughter Kim in the office together are no doubt some of his favorite memories.

Of all Arthur’s successes, his role as grandfather and great-grandfather were his proudest. Known lovingly as “Bampi” to not only them, but also to all other teammates, neighbors, and friends throughout the years. Bampi could be seen on any town soccer field, hockey rink, or dance recital row, that involved his grandchildren: Ashley (Steenbruggen) Staab and her husband Jordan of Lynnfield, Dana Steenbruggen of Truckee CA – both formerly of Wilmington, Bianca Terenzi of Tewksbury, Dylan and Brittany Gale of Andover. Climbing the ranks of Bampi’s favorite people the last decade were grand-daughter Delaney-Rae Bowen, Great-Grandchildren Sydney & Ryker Staab, and caretaker turned best friend, Renee Molinari.

Friends and family will gather for calling hours 2pm-4pm on Tuesday, March 21st at Nichols Funeral Home, 187 Middlesex Ave. (Rte. 62) in Wilmington. Funeral service will follow immediately at 4pm at the funeral home.
