Benedict T. Crupi, “Benny,” age 94, a long-time resident of Reading, MA, passed away peacefully on March 13, 2023.
Benny was born on June 19, 1928, in Boston, MA; he was the dear son of the late Antonio and Angelina (Pizzuto) Crupi. Benny was one of 9 siblings in a large and loving Italian family who were raised in Stoneham, MA. As a young boy, Benny, attended St. Patrick’s School; he went on to Somerville Trade High School and graduated from Franklin Institute.
Benny loved all kinds of cars; he was an expert mechanic and a whiz when it came to fixing engines or diagnosing an automotive issue. Benny had an unwavering work ethic, an endearing personality and great customer service skills; these were all attributes that led him to be quite successful throughout the years. Benny started his career as the co-owner of Highland Motors in Melrose, MA. with his brother Bobby, where he sold and repaired used cars for many years. Benny then went back to school where he earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Arts from Fitchburg State College and took a position at Melrose High School where he taught auto mechanics. Benny enjoyed teaching young students to use their minds as well as their hands; he was a great mentor and a good friend to his students as well as his co-workers, especially Clark Jenkins who he considered his 6th son. Benny retired in 1991 following many years of hard work and dedication to his profession.
Benny married “his sweetheart” Jeanne M. Boylen in 1950; and welcomed five sons. Benny worked hard to provide for his family, he put his carpentry skills to good use in 1956 when he built his families home in Reading, MA. Benny was a devoted husband, father and grandfather, who would do anything to help his family. As his sons married and moved into their own homes, Benny, was right there to help them move, do various construction projects and odd jobs. Benny treasured the times they spent together especially at there family cottage in East Kingston, NH. Benny was an avid sportsman who loved bowling, golf and horseshoes. He attended countless sporting and school events for his sons and grandchildren.
Benny looked forward to Couples Club on Saturday evenings, he loved dancing with Jeanne and socializing with friends. He could also be found most mornings at the Last Corner Restaurant in Reading having breakfast or his favorite beverage coffee with his buddies and solving the world problems.
Benny will be fondly remembered for his outgoing personality, his willingness to share of his time and talents to help others, and his unwavering love of his family and friends. Benny was a great guy who will forever be loved and missed by all.
Benny was the beloved husband of 72 years to Jeanne M. (Boylen) Crupi of Reading, devoted father of Daniel Crupi and his wife Connie of Townsend, Steven Crupi and his wife Cheryl of Dennis, Richard Crupi of East Kingston, NH, Kenneth Crupi and his wife Veronica and Anthony Crupi and his wife Patricia all of Reading. Loving “Papa” of Daniel Crupi, Jr. and his wife Rebecca, Mark Crupi, Michele Downey and her husband John, Matthew Crupi, Greg Crupi, Nicole Crupi, the late Kirk Crupi, Dylan Crupi, Lauren Crupi, Keith Crupi, Amanda Crupi, Rebecca Fuller and her husband William and his Great-Grandchildren Benny, Yena, Emeline, Isla, Elcie, and Melissa. He was the dear brother of Robert Crupi of Wakefield, Rosalie Allen of Stoneham, Mary Francouer of Peabody, Beatrice Maglioni of Stoneham, Loretta Milot of Billerica, the late Joseph Crupi, the late Anthony Crupi and the late Aldo Crupi. Benny is further survived by many nieces, nephews and their families.
Family and friends will gather at Kitty’s Restaurant, 123 Main St., North Reading, MA, on Sunday, April 16th at 12:00 pm. with a Service to Celebrate and Honor Benny at 12:30 p.m. and a luncheon to follow.
