“Discover Girl Scouts” at our annual Sing Along Event
Event to include Scavenger Hunt, S’mores, Swap crafts, and a Sing Along around a Campfire
The Reading and North Reading Girl Scouts, together with Girl Scouts of Eastern Massachusetts, invite all girls in grades K-12 to discover fun, friendship, and adventure as part of the largest girl-led organization in the world! They are hosting a free “Discover Girl Scouts” Sing along event for any girls in K-12, and their families, interested in learning more about Girl Scouts.
The Discover Girl Scouts Sing Along will be held from 3:00pm – 5:00pm on Saturday September 16, 2017, at Camp Rice Moody, 29 Rice Road, Reading MA 01867. No advance registration is required and the free event will be held rain or shine (there is a covered pavilion as well as indoor space, if necessary). The event is not limited to girls from Reading and North Reading — girls from any town, whether registered or not, are welcome to attend and learn more about what Girl Scouts do and learn how to join Girl Scouts. Every girl who attends receives a fun patch, as well.
The Discover Girl Scouts Sing Along will include a Scavenger Hunt, making S’mores around a campfire, SWAP crafts, and singing traditional Girl Scout Camp songs. During the event, girls and their families have the opportunity to meet other families interested in Girl Scouts and learn more about what Girl Scouts do by talking to Girl Scouts and leaders from the North Reading and Reading Girl Scouts. Representatives from Girl Scouts of Eastern Massachusetts (GSEM) also will be hosting a parent information session during the event.
Families are invited to learn more about Girl Scouts by visiting www.gsema.org. Beyond troop membership, GSEMA offers hundreds of programs annually to satisfy a range of girls’ interests, including outdoor adventure programs, STEM (science, technology, engineering and math), community service, art, music and more. This year, Girl Scouts is introducing 23 new STEM and outdoor badges for girls of all ages, and there are more ways than ever to unleash the power of every G.I.R.L. (Go-getter, Innovator, Risk-taker, Leader) ™.
If you have more questions, or are unable to attend this event, there are other Discover Girl Scouts events taking place this fall all over eastern Massachusetts. Just go to http://www.gsema.org/en/about-girl-scouts/join.html and look for one that works for you using the map on that web page.
To join Girl Scouts, go to www.gsema.org and click on the “Be a Girl Scout” link then on next page click on the “Join Today” link. The next page is an online form, which leads next to a page which can help you choose an appropriate troop, based on zip code (click the box next to desired troop when the list comes up). If a nearby troop does not come up, it might not be listed yet in the new online system, but Girl Scouts still can help to match you, after registration, with the correct troop so long as you put the girl’s grade and school (just put “unsure” if you are unable to select a troop using this tool). After that additional pages come up for payment and additional contact information.
If you have further questions about this event or any part of the Girl Scout signup process, email the volunteer Reading Girl Scouts Membership Promoter Marianne Downing at marianndowning@comcast.net or Reading Girl Scouts Service Unit Coordinator Amy Ward at 13award13@gmail.com .
