June 23, 1935 – July 12, 2022
Jean M. (Buckley) Cain, a resident of Reading for 57 years, passed away at her home on July 12, 2022. She was 87 years of age. Jean was born in Boston, Massachusetts on June 23, 1935, the daughter of the late Edward and Eileen (Malone) Buckley.
Jean worked at the telephone company in the earlier years of her life and then became a full-time homemaker. She loved her family and insisted on having birthday parties every year for all her children, grandchildren and of course, her loving husband Paul. The birthday parties carried on for many years and even into the adult years of her five children. She loved to have a party and if she called someone and it sounded like there was more than two people in the background she would always say jokingly, “are you having a party with without me?”
Jean loved to garden and was always in the yard attending to the many flowers and vegetables that she planted. If you were in the yard with her, she would point out all the different plantings and tell you everything about the plant including what color the flowers will be or if it needed full or partial sun. Oh, and don’t even think about climbing those apple trees! Jean also loved going to museums, craft events and also joined various quilting clubs in the community.
Jean grew up in Dorchester and would always talk about how much she loved the city. Even during the last few months of her life, she would continue to talk about Dorchester and how she wanted to move back there.
Jean was the beloved wife of Paul C. Cain for 61 years. Devoted mother of Judith B. Sedleski and her husband Paul of Hudson, NH, Edward D. Cain and his wife Colleen of FL, Matthew P. Cain and his wife Margaret of Manchester by the Sea, Jeannette E. Spataro of Reading and Christopher D. Cain of Reading. Cherished sister of William Buckley and his wife Donna of Walpole and the late Edward Buckley, Raymond Buckley and his surviving spouse Rosemary, Barbara Madden and Margaret Vitti and her surviving spouse Phillip Vitti. Loving grandmother of Dawn, Paul Jr, David, Molly, Matt Jr, Brittany, Nicole, Kristina, Tyler, Blade, Nathaniel, James, Hunter and Joshua, and loving great grandmother of Ethan, Brady, Jackson, Ryan, Niya, Natalie, Kai and Nevaeh.
The family would like to thank all the extremely compassionate caregivers that spent countless hours providing care for Jean.
