January 3, 1943 ~ April 22, 2024
Joan Marie Malone (Recinito), age 81, of Salisbury, MA, passed away on April 22, 2024, surrounded by family after a period of declining health. Born in Boston, MA, on January 3, 1943, Joan was the daughter of the late Sermonie (Sam) and Mary Recinito (Farrell). She lived most of her life in Massachusetts, including in Somerville, Bridgewater, Burlington, and Reading, and once retired, she enjoyed spending the winters in Nalcrest, Florida.
Joan was the beloved wife of over 57 years and friend for over 75 years to Bernard P. Malone. She was the loving mother to Maureen Mazza of Somerville, Matthew (wife Melinda) of Houston, TX, and Patricia Fisher (husband Jeff) of Walpole, MA, and a proud Nanny to Hannah, Spencer, Breana, Riley, Kaylin, Jeffery Jr, and John. She is also survived by her brother John Recinito and his wife Mary Lou of Stoneham, as well as numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and dear lifelong friends.
Joan graduated from St. Clements High School in 1960, earned her nursing degree from the Lawrence Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in 1963, and obtained a bachelor’s degree from New England College in 1985. She enjoyed a long career as a Registered Nurse, including on the IV team at Mass General Hospital, Case Management at New England Rehabilitation Hospital, Community Nursing through Home Health Care agencies and Staff Nursing at Reading Internal Medicine.
Joan appreciated traveling the world with her husband Bernard, exploring destinations such as Greece, Mexico, Cuba, Portugal, Ireland, England, Scotland, and Germany, as well as various domestic and international cruises. Her happy place, however, was Lake Sunapee, NH, where she frequently vacationed as a child, wife, mother, and grandmother. During retirement at Nalcrest, she was involved in several clubs and organized sports, including bocci. Joan always looked forward to family gatherings, which gave her the opportunity to engage with her children and grandchildren.
The family greatly appreciates the excellent care provided to Joan by several local medical facilities, including Mass General North Cancer Center for her long term care, Anna Jacques Hospital for her frequent treatments, and Lawrence General Hospital for their excellent care of Joan in her final days. In lieu of flowers the family kindly requests consideration of a donation in Joan’s name to one of these hospitals.
