Bowen, Margaret T -Of Reading, Oct. 24. Beloved wife of the late John Bowen. Mother of Gerard Bowen and his partner Jackie Jackson, John Bowen and his wife Deborah, Kathleen DiSciullo and her husband Joseph, Richard Bowen and his wife Julie, and Robert Bowen and his wife Ann. Daughter of the late Henry and Margaret Lordan, Sister of Patricia McAvoy and her late husband Walter, Timothy Lordan and his wife Jeanne. The late Henry Lordan and his wife Betty. The late William and Maureen Lordan.
Grandmother of Brittany Bowen and her husband Tyler Twombly, Nicole Bowen, Rachel Bowen, Charles DiSciullo, Jack Bowen, Grace Bowen, Sarah Bowen, Anna Bowen, Maxwell Bowen. Margaret is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
Margaret (Peg) was born and raised in Charlestown, Mass, the daughter of Henry and Margaret Lordan. She grew up having a close relationship with her siblings. She met the love of her life, John (Mike) Bowen, at the Boston City Hospital, and they were wed in 1956. Peg relished the role of marriage and motherhood and poured her intelligence, humor, and passion into loving Mike, raising her five children, and settling into suburban life in Reading. It was crystal clear how Peg and Mike loved, respected, and admired each other throughout their entire life. For Peg, it was all about family. She was known for her Christmas parties thrown for her large extended family and always had lots of food, especially whoopie pies for which she was known for, available for all.
Peg treasured the neighborhood “Club” with Bea, Irene, Phyllis, Bev, Joan, Enid, and Sandy, and established the strongest and most loving bonds with these women and their families that continued through her entire life. She was one of the first early adopters of technology – using desktops, iPads, iPods etc. She was gifted an Alexa so she could listen to music and became very attached. The running joke was that we threatened to print in her obituary that she was survived by her girlfriend Alexa, which we would all laugh about. We were all witness to the transformation from “Mom” to “Nanny” as she welcomed, treasured, and took such pride in all her grandchildren. She was happiest to see her grandchildren grow into adults and come by and share their time, their lives, and their stories with her. She was so happy simply recognizing just to live a life with those you love.
She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Mike, who died in 2003. There is going to be quite a reunion and a lot of catching up to do. We can imagine Dad finally getting the perfect cup of tea and 5 Oreo cookies served by Mom in front of the Bruins game.
She passed away after a relatively short battle with progressive dementia. We are comforted knowing that Margaret Bowen knows who Margaret Bowen is again. We thank all the wonderful, caring aides at The Residence at Pearl Street who took such good care of her.
Funeral from the Cota Funeral Home, 335 Park St. (corner of Park St. and Rte. 28), NORTH READING, at the Reading line, on Tuesday, Oct. 31st at 10:30 am. Funeral Mass at St. Agnes Church, 186 Woburn St., Reading at 11 a.m. Relatives and friends may visit at the funeral home on Tuesday from 9 a.m.-10:30 a.m. Interment at Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, Peabody.
