Reading, MA — Thanks to the generosity of the Lewis family, the Reading Open Land Trust Corporation (ROLT) has a beautiful open space added to its inventory of land assets. On April 19, 2023, ROLT received a donation of almost ten acres of land off Grove Street.
Long-time Reading residents, Bill and Rosemary Lewis donated the property to assist with ROLT’s ongoing mission of preserving open space for the citizens of Reading and its’ neighbors.
The property is located behind homes along Grove Street and presents a spectacular panorama of open space and wetlands as one looks south toward Lowell Street.
ROLT is excited because the parcel is part of a larger assemblage of open space, owned by the Town of Reading and various other abutters.
ROLT also wishes to thank Brad Latham, Esq., for his invaluable assistance in helping with the legal process, and ensuring the land donation was acquired with accuracy and in a timely manner.
In other exciting news, ROLT would like to announce that Fred McGrane has recently joined the Board of Directors to help ROLT further its mission. Fred McGrane and his wife, Grace, are long-time resident of Reading, and Fred brings a wealth of experience in dealing with real estate. His years in banking also provided him with first-hand knowledge of how to assess property and review its potential. Fred also served in Reading on the Board of Assessors. Welcome aboard!!
ROLT was formed over four decades ago to protect open space, provide land for passive recreation, and to help provide areas for native flora and fauna to flourish. Given the intense weather the nation has experienced in recent years, ROLT feels protecting these wetlands is vital to help mitigate flooding in our town.
